30. Acquisition of Land Interests for Biscayne Bay Coastal Wetlands and Bird Drive Recharge Area in Miami-Dade (Staff contact, Jennifer Reynolds and Stephen M. Collins)
Thank you for the opportunity to provide my written comment in support of the acquisition of land interests for Biscayne Bay Coastal Wetlands (BBCW) and Bird Drive Recharge Area in Miami-Dade County.
It is important to note that BBCW is the only CERP project to directly benefit the health of Biscayne Bay and Biscayne National Park. Biscayne Bay is an essential quality of life resource for Miami-Dade County and a critical economic asset.
The USACE Jacksonville District's recent announcement of the award for constructing the Biscayne Bay Coastal Wetlands L-31 E Flow-way and the kickoff for BBSEER, the second phase of BBCW, is encouraging news.
I urge you to vote in favor of this acquisition to continue the great progress the South Florida Water Management District has on Everglades restoration this year.
